Ashby Housing Rehabilitation Program
The program is to assist low and moderate income residents to improve their housing situation. Eligible improvements include:
- Chimney or foundation repair,
- Lead paint/asbestos removal,
- Septic system repair/replacement,
- Roof repair/replacement,
- Storm window installation.
Grant regulations require that certain items be addressed first (i.e. building and sanitary code compliance, serious maintenance problems, etc.) The maximum funding per project is generally up to $35,000.00. As long as you own your home, this is a payment and interest free loan, based on a 15 year forgiveness schedule. It decreases 5% per year up to 15 years, and then you owe nothing. More information.

Transfer Station Fees Increase
Ashby Recycle Center & Transfer Station Fees Schedule(pdf)
ARCTS received almost 30% ( fy08 $4400) of its revenue from the sale of recycling materials. Disruptions in the global markets have resulted in the collapse of the value of recycling materials. The price for recycled paper, plastic, aluminum & steel has dropped as much as 80%. Recycling has gone from a revenue source to an expense (approximately $2200). The net loss annually is more than $6000.
Please continue to separate materials and use the ARCTS recycling facilities. The disposal of recycled materials is still less costly than trash.
Since material handling costs increased significantly, projected revenue must insure continued operation. We will have to adjust our fee schedule as follows beginning Saturday, Dec. 13th.
