Protecting Ashby's Rural Character with Natural Resource Protection Zoning, Presentation and Q&A, 10/27/2021 at 7pm
On Wednesday, October 27 at 7:00 the Planning Board invites you to join a public conversation on Natural Resource Protection Zoning.
Jeff Lacy, of Rural Planning Associates, will hold a presentation followed by a Q&A with Planning Board members. Jeff has been consulting with the Planning Board on reworking the NRPZ that was withdrawn at the Annual Town Meeting last May.
Natural Resource Protection Zoning replaces our current Open Space Residential Development bylaw and is intended to protect the rural character of Ashby, even as it grows. It can help large land owners realize income from their land while still preserving 80% in its current use.

Job Posting – Town Of Ashby Town Administrator
The Town of Ashby seeks a creative, proactive, community leader, committed to excellence in public service, to serve as its next Town Administrator. The current Town Administrator is retiring after 9 years of dedicated service to the community. This mostly rural community, encapsulated by open spaces, a right to farm community, and a rich history, is located in the upper Middlesex County region. Led by a three-member Selectboard, Town Administrator and Open Town Meeting form of government, the Town Administrator is the chief administrative and operating officer of the Town and oversees an operating budget of approx. $8.3 million as of FY20 with 1 full-time Assistant Town Administrator and the assessor’s office. The Town is supported by full- and part-time Town employees, including the Town Clerk staff, Police Department, and Fire Department/EMS, Tax Collector office, Library staff, Highway Department, and the COA staff. The town departments are supported by a vibrant and caring set of volunteers, a trait you find through much of the town.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, (a Master’s degree is preferred), and 3 to 5 years experience as a municipal administrator, or assistant administrator, or a related field, and MCPPO upon hiring or within six months of being hired. Salary range and contract terms for this full-time position commensurate with qualifications and professional experience, starting at $90k per year. North Central MA Food Campus Survey – Closes 11/12/2021
Local Food Works of North Central Massachusetts have partnered with a number of community stakeholders to explore the concept of a “Food Campus” for North Central Massachusetts (NCMA). The food campus could potentially house a number of businesses including a:
- Food hub for local produce/food aggregation
- Commercial kitchen for food entrepreneurs
- Retail/grocery site
…and perhaps more!
This initiative is part of the Local Food Works effort to improve the health and quality of life for residents in North Central MA. The Food Center will support farmers, food businesses, and the community in strengthening the local food economy, bringing more local food to North Central Massachusetts, and improving the health of the region. Planning for this project has been underway since 2018.
We want to hear from YOU!
This survey is for local farmers/producers, makers, and buyers who may be interested in selling into a food hub located in North Central Massachusetts.
